Museletter
- January 2004
Welcome to my first Museletter, a collection of thoughts to enhance, educate and entertain.
So why a Museletter? Surely you mean a newsletter? Well, actually that's what it started out as, when I made a small error and hit the M key and not the N key, and I had one of those moments when I realised I've stumbled on something! Then some questions arose: How should I spell it? Then Lorraine (my wife) correctly informed me that if it was a Mewsletter it would just be cats talking! Then Aaron (my 13 year old son) said "Is that because it will be amusing?" And I realised I've got a goal to achieve.
A Quote - to live your life by:
We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.
Winston Churchill
He knew a thing or two, did WC on inspiring and motivating! Can I suggest an exercise for you to help put this great quote into action? Take a blank piece of paper and list all the ways you give. While doing it, try not to be judgemental about it. When youve done that put a symbol against each item to indicate how much pleasure you get from that item of giving. Now make a new list of ways you could give, if you wanted to. Heres an opportunity to let your imagination go wild! You arent going to put all these ideas into action so just have a bit of fun! When youve done that list put a symbol against each item to indicate your imagined amount of pleasure. Now its decision time! Would you like to start giving in one or more of your new areas? Will you need to cut out some items from your old list? What are your criteria for choosing one item over another? Can you change something so that an area which you give but dont receive enough pleasure, will give you more pleasure? What follows decision time is action! Take that action that leads to you enjoying giving, its going to be a win-win. Be selfish and be a better giver!
EFT Another Success Story
I have been studying and practising Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) for some time now and I am continually amazed at its results.
EFTs discovery statement is: All Negative Emotion is caused by a disruption in the bodys electrical system. We have fluctuating emotions as normality, but when the negative emotion has a consequential negative effect on our lives, thats when we need to take some action and get back in charge. What EFT does is balance the bodys electrical system while the mind is tuned into the negative stuff, and this has the effect of reducing the negative emotion substantially, often completely. Heres my story:
When I was a boy I had a habit of not finishing my meals. I would always leave a mouthful or more of food on my plate. This wasnt appreciated by my parents who often told me of the millions of starving Africans. One of my favourite foods was mushrooms and one day my mother made us what can best be described as a mushroom goo! It wasnt very nice, so I did what all sensible seven year olds would do, I moved it around my plate for a while, waited for it to go cold and then proclaimed: I cant finish this, its gone cold.
Well, that was the day my parents decided that I was going to finish a meal, and they made me eat it all up! I can assure you that if the mushroom goo was horrible hot it was revolting cold! And from that day onward I couldnt eat mushrooms. (All parents take note!). Every time I smelt mushrooms I felt sick, and sometimes when I ate a mushroom that was hiding in some vegetable dish that I didnt know about, I was transported straight back to that meal and all the horrible feelings I felt then.
Some 35 years later I decide to do EFT on myself on this subject. I do just one round of EFT, tapping on certain meridian points while bring mushrooms to mind. Two minutes later, I have this sense that the long non-mushroom eating era is over. Later on that evening we were out with friends eating an Indian and I eat a mushroom. Voluntarily! Something only a day before I would have run a mile to avoid, and it tasted like mushrooms used to taste like. Before the goo! It was great!
I cant put into words the freedom I feel as a result.
EFT is highly effective when dealing with any negative emotional problems, as well as pain relief. Presumably where the pain has some form of emotional cause, which is probably the majority of situations.

Book Recommendation
Wisdom of the Ages by Wayne Dyer
This book is just a treasure, consisting of sixty pieces of prose or poetry from some of the greatest writers who ever walked on our planet. Wayne selects a passage and then writes a short essay on the relevance in todays world. I found it really illuminating, and I found his explanations kept sending me back to the original to re-read it and discover meanings I had overlooked. Some of the contributors are, Pythagoras, Buddha, Michelangelo, Shelley, and Shakespeare. While some of the topics covered are: nature, time, laughter, risk-taking, and individuality.
