My Muse
A friend of mine supplies a great little product: it's a magnet that goes onto your boiler that produces 23% more energy for the fuel burned. It costs £50 and so most people would get payback within a few months. Buying and fitting this magnet would be a no-brainer for most people. (If you want details on how to get one drop me an email). And the great thing is, the magnet lasts for life.
I find it interesting to compare how most people are prepared to invest in a device like this, and yet are not prepared to invest in their most precious asset. Themselves. I wonder what you could achieve if you boosted your energy by 23%? How much more success would you have? How much more fun? What would be the effect on your health? Your relationships? Your family? I have no doubt that the most successful people in our society invest in themselves. Whether it's reading quality books, further studying, going to conferences, attending personal development courses, or utilising a personal coach.
However, many people don't invest in themselves, and I find this a shame and I'm intrigued to find out why, from both a personal and professional interest perspective. I have a suspicion that some people feel that investing in themselves would be, in some way, an admission that something was wrong with them, or that they weren't OK. Most of us have negative ideas about ourselves, (I'm not good enough etc) which make us feel bad. We don't like to feel bad, so we do what we can to avoid any circumstances where this occurs and we link the idea that "I'm not good enough" to needing to invest to make me better, and the negative feelings this produces so we don't invest in ourselves because the thought of it makes us feel bad.
Most of us want the feeling to be right before we take action. But it works the other way around. If you go to a party and don't feel like dancing because you're not in the mood, you're mood doesn't normally change. Dance and see how quickly your mood changes! It's the same with going to the gym. Motion creates emotion. So we need to invest in ourselves, so that we feel good about ourselves, not wait till we feel good, then we'll invest in ourselves.
So the question that I want to leave you with is: What form of investment in yourself are you going to do in what remains of 2005? Don't wait for December 31 to make some resolutions. Take action now, invest in yourself and reap the rewards!
If you want some support in choosing what to do, email me back and I'll give you some ideas.
My News
I've enjoyed a busy time of it, promoting the book, attending courses, and meeting a hero of mine at the Professional Speakers Conference. Jana Stanfield has written and performed some inspiring songs, and she was a delight to meet. She also inspired me to pick up a writing project that I stopped about 7 years ago because the scale of it scared me! It still scares me, but I have an idea how to progress with it now. For samples of Jana's music check out her website www.janastanfield.com.
For those of you unable to make the book launch party last month, you may wish to come to Borders in Watford on Saturday December 3rd at 11.30am where I will be doing a talk and book-signing.
Book Recommendation
I haven't finished a book this month that I would want to recommend to you. I'm in the middle of a fab book, but I don't recommend until I've completed it, just in case!
So the question I want to ask you is: If you were one of the many people who bought my book, would you recommend it? One of my readers, Heather, said the following:
"I'm impressed by the way that this book forces you to really explore what you want and why. You feel the author is your partner as you progress through the book and you get a real sense of his support along the way. As someone who often reads this type of book straight through, i.e. without stopping to complete any exercises, some of the questions really made you stop and think. This book is described as "a simple and effective formula for success" and I couldn't agree more.
This review appears on Amazon.com (the book isn't yet on Amazon.co.uk). Would you give me feedback on the book? I'm really keen to get your views.

Opportunity to Contribute
Here's something different: "During a BBQ a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) and just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00pm, Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke perhaps Ingrid would be with us today."
Recognizing a Stroke A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed an getting to the patient within 3 hours which is tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Thank goodness for the sense to remember the "3" steps. Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
1. Ask the individual to SMILE.
2. Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
3. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (coherently, i.e. it is sunny out today)
If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 999 immediately and describe the symptoms to the operator. After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could identify facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems, researchers urged the general public to learn the three questions. They presented their conclusions at the American Stroke Association's annual meeting last February. Widespread use of this test could result in prompt diagnosis and treatment of the stroke and prevent brain damage.
