My Muse
Comfort zones. Why is their pull so strong?
I love personal development and growth, and I find it so interesting that many of us, probably including me, on one level want to change, and yet we don't. We set ourselves goals and challenges, and then we back away from them.
What is it that pulls us back from achieving these goals? We know that it would be great to have the success, but something bigger, something more important, to us, stops us. Is it thoughts along the lines of: If I achieve this, then that means I'm xxx and then I'll have to do yyy and I don't think I can? Or is it the fear of failure? I don't want to look stupid?
I know from my own personal experience that I spent many, many years, living in a comfort zone, not pushing myself, not achieving much, being comfortable, accepting what I thought I could get, rather than going for what I really wanted. Indeed my mindset was so strong that I didn't acknowledge to myself that there was something more that I wanted for my life.
My mindset of mediocrity was so strong that I couldn't see another way. Our mind has huge power, to project forward to amazing achievements, or to keeping us average. We need to change the balance of power, so we are in charge of our brain, not the other way around.
If this has resonated with you, call me to discuss a plan of action to turn your life around.
My News
The Public Speaking Masterclass finished on Monday and was a great success. Everyone said that they had made huge improvements in both their public speaking and also their confidence levels. Here’s a quote from Vicky Campling:
"I've learnt how to handle my fear, talk more slowly and clearly and dare I say it, actually enjoy myself whilst talking to a group.
I've learnt a lot, changed a lot and met some great people....thanks Nick!"
Due to the success of this course, I've decided to run another one, six Mondays from June 5th to July 10th. When I've confirmed all the details I'll let you know about it. If you are interested, just let me know.
Opportunity to Contribute
I received the following from my friend and book coach Mindy Gibbins-Klein last week:
I'm taking part in a sponsored walk on May 14th 2006 to raise money for Epilepsy Action, and I would really welcome your support. Fifteen years ago, I had two close friends die from epilepsy-related causes and I have since written and published my book about it and become an accredited volunteer with Epilepsy Action. So you know why this cause is near and dear to my heart. This annual event raises money for the helpline which takes calls from people with epilepsy, to give them information, advice and hope.
Please take a moment to sponsor me. It's really easy - you can donate online by credit or debit card at the following address: http://www.justgiving.com/mindy
All donations are secure and sent electronically to Epilepsy Action. If you are a UK taxpayer, Justgiving will automatically reclaim 28% Gift Aid on your behalf, so your donation is worth even more. Please join me in supporting Epilepsy Action and a fabulous cause.
Even better, if you live in the Southgate/Enfield area, why not join us for the walk? It will be a wonderful day out. Simply email me for the details.
Thanks and best wishes,
Mindy
