My News
Last Tuesday's Financial Times had an article on BNI, and my chapter in particular.

My Muse
I was coaching a client a couple of weeks ago and we were discussing strategies she could employ at a potentially tricky meeting that she had coming up. During the discussion it became apparent to me that she wasn't allowing herself to come up with effective strategies, almost like she was being held back by something.
Further investigation revealed that what was holding her back was an idea that she 'couldn't do this' or she 'couldn't do that' What seemed to be happening was that she felt that she had to conform to some unspecified, covert rule system.
However, the circumstance of the meeting was that it was, for her, unprecedented, and therefore there were no rules in place.
Now I know that for much of our lives there are rules. There are new laws being passed by our government and Brussels at a faster rate than ever before in history, and there are ways we are expected to behave at work and in our homes - our culture.
But I wonder how often we use these 'rules' as an excuse to not do the stuff we could do. To reach out to a standard of excellence that would enhance our life and those around us?
I encourage you to push your boundaries out beyond the limiting rules others may wish to impose on you, and feel really alive as you live your life as fully as possible.
Book Recommendation
The Present by Spencer Johnson
Another short book, a parable that plays on the dual meaning of the word present. Now, if you're thinking all I recommend are short books with easy to understand lessons, you may well be right. They are just what I love! Let's be honest, we all know this stuff, that to be happy we need to live in The Present, but do we do it? Books like this one help us to go there more than we do, and that, in my book, is a good thing!

Opportunity to Contribute Good News this month! An opportunity to contribute that won't cost you a penny!
I would like you to consider blood donation. The thousands of medical operations performed every day cannot be performed without blood supplies, which come from donations. New rules introduced by the blood transfusion service means that many recent donors are now not eligible to donate and so supplies may well be affected.
Friends of mine run regular blood donation days in the Elstree area, and the next one in on November 14th. More info from www.joelybear.org.uk or if you can't wait that long, log on to the Nation Blood Transfusion Service on www.blood.co.uk to find out where the nearest suitable place you can donate.
Should you now be thinking you don't really want to do it, please re-consider. Each donation can help to save 3 lives, and I promise you will feel very good about yourself afterwards. And honestly, it doesn't hurt!
