Museletter - December 2006

My Muse

I had an insight the other day that I believe is so important it will change the way I work. Here is a summary of it.

For some time I have been aware that although many people achieve their goals, far too many (to my mind) do not. As I started looking into it I realised that we all set goals to achieve something that we don’t have. More money, a relationship, more confidence, for example. All, therefore, come from a perception of lack. Then I realised that there is another way to set goals: How can I express one or more of my values? So I’ve reset my own goals with this in mind. Many of you know that I have a goal to be a Trainer with The Outlook Training Organisation. I still do, and these are my values that I believe I will express in the pursuit and achievement of this goal: empowerment, contribution, commitment, freedom, learning, loving, support, passion, integrity, and fun.

Now the goal changes from being ‘something I’m not’ to being something that allows me to express who I am. Although it’s a small change, for me it’s a significant difference. I have shared this insight with my coaching clients and it seems to be resonating deeply with them.

What the system needs to work is an understanding of what values are and what our own personal values are. Then we add on the values-based goals and I believe we have a highly motivating formula for success.

Previously, the best way of achieving the values clarification was in a one-to-one coaching session, which has limitations, so I have devised a one-day workshop, called ‘Playing Big’ which will give people the understanding, knowledge, and motivation to make their life values-based.

The reason that I called the seminar ‘Playing Big’ is that for most of my life I’ve ‘Played Small’. I’ve allowed my fears and limiting ideas about myself and the world to dominate my thinking, my decision making and my actions. No longer am I prepared to do this. No longer is this an acceptable way to behave. I am going to live my life in accordance with my values, what I believe to be important and right for me. And this seminar will allow others the same freedom.

My News

I’ve not one but two seminars to offer you this month!

Firstly, the first ever Playing Big seminar will take place on January 20th at Avenue House, East End Road, Finchley Central. Starting at 10am and going through until 5pm. The price for the seminar will be £99 per person, except for this pilot version. For this date only I am reducing the cost to just £50. Places will be limited, so please reserve your place quickly! As a special bonus (as if half price isn’t enough!) the first 10 delegates to register will receive 2 coaching sessions included in the price, normal price £130.

If you are more interested in business issues, I will be delivering a talk on January 16th, 7pm at The Business Connection, Comfort Hotel, Northwick Park Road, Harrow, HA1 2NT, where I will be explaining how to create a Values Led Organisation.

The second seminar I am running in January is The Business of Communication on the 31st at Batchworth Park Golf Club, London Road, Rickmansworth. Learn a simple yet effective tool to communicate better. Produce results from your communications that will amaze you, from increasing sales to communicating with teenagers!
