Museletter

March
2007
My Muse
I
was
really
pleased
with
the
response
to
my
Muse
on
energy
and
the
large
number
of
people
who
requested
my
tip
sheet
on
more
energy.
It’s
great
to
know
when
I
produce
something
that’s
useful.
It’s
very
encouraging
feedback.
Now,
feedback
is a
very
interesting
subject.
We
receive
it
often,
in
different
forms,
but
I
wonder
if
you
recognise
it
for
what
it
is
or
do
you
misinterpret
it?
Feedback
is
the
reaction
of
the
outside
world
to
what
we
say
or
do.
But
how
many
times
do
we
(don’t
think
I’m
immune!)
take
it
as
criticism?
None
of
us
like
criticism,
and
so
when
we
hear
it
(or
think
we
do)
we
tend
to
get
defensive,
upset,
hurt.
Sometimes
we
react
back,
but
really
we
need
to
recognise
‘it’s
just
feedback’.
Let
me
give
you
an
example.
The
intention
of
my
Monthly
Museletter
is
to
empower
and
inspire.
Because
empowering
and
inspiring
are
part
of
my
purpose,
and
this
is
one
way
of
me
delivering
it
to a
large
number
of
people
in
an
accessible
way.
However,
in
the
past
I
have
used
the
Museletter
for
other
purposes,
for
me
to
get
something,
rather
than
to
give
something.
When
that
happens
I
get
feedback
in
the
form
of
‘unsubscribes’
from
the
list.
It’s
great
feedback.
Hopefully,
I’ve
learnt
from
it
and
now
I
keep
on
the
giving
path.
But
it’s
so
easy
to
see
it
as
criticism,
and
then
horrible
negative
thoughts
run
through
my
head,
like
‘I’m
not
good
enough’
or
‘I’m
bad’.
These
thoughts
then
lead
to
negative
feelings,
which
can
lead
to
negative
behaviour.
So
the
people
around
also
suffer.
(And
they
say
it’s
good
to
share!)
In
our
daily
communication
with
work
colleagues,
business
associates,
clients,
family
members
there
are
lots
of
opportunities
for
feedback.
I
estimate
we
all
receive
many
forms
of
feedback
everyday.
The
problem
is
not
the
feedback.
The
problem
is
in
our
interpretation
of
what
that
feedback
means.
Maybe
it
doesn’t
mean
anything
– we
just
make
up
the
meaning.
And
we
can
just
as
well
not
make
something
up!
I
accept
we
need
to
learn
from
the
feedback,
but
if
we
can
just
deal
with
the
reality
and
not
the
interpretation
or
misinterpretation,
I
think
our
communication
with
each
other
and
our
understanding
of
our
lives
and
where
we’re
going
with
them
would
improve
hugely.
So,
to
help
reduce
misunderstanding
I
have
created
another
‘tip
sheet’
this
time
on
improving
communication.
For
a
copy,
just
