Museletter - October 2007

My Muse

Life’s funny isn’t it? It’s so clear that we create our circumstances. We like to blame external factors, but it seems to me if we are honest with ourselves and prepared to accept responsibility we can see that all our results are down to us and us alone.

Where we focus produces results. Where we do not focus brings an absence of results. It’s so obvious, and yet I found that this month it hit me again where it hurts, in the wallet!

I ran a personal development workshop on October 16th, for which I spent a lot of time and effort in preparing. It went very well and I received excellent feedback from the delegates. However, with all the focus on that day, I didn’t focus on my marketing for coaching clients. Guess what? A serious drop off in new clients over the last 3 months.

Great lessons for me here about giving appropriate focus to something, and also ensuring that I do the regular important stuff as well. Being the personality type that I am, I am attracted to new exciting things above what could be considered ‘mundane’. When the mundane produces your income, you need to be careful!

Is this syndrome familiar to you? Are you better at starting new projects than finishing them? Before it costs you, why not have a sample coaching session to keep you on track? It’s no cost no obligation, and it might just keep your wallet full!

My News

Do you find that sometimes you can meet someone who you get on so well with that within moments of meeting you can almost finish off each other’s sentences? And other people when you say the same thing completely misunderstand what you are saying?

That’s because we all have a communication style, and people who share styles have generally better communication than people across styles.

In business, if you have communications with colleagues with whom you need to get agreement, or clients you want to buy from you, or suppliers you want to get things done by, you need to communicate in their communications style. So you get the result you want.

In my new course, The Business of Communication, you will discover what your style is, and the characteristics of the other styles. You will then learn how to recognise other people’s style and most importantly, how to talk to them in their style (not your style) so that you get the results you want.
